Gwynn is often considered the best pure hitter of his era. His remarkable total of eight batting titles (tying him with Honus Wagner for the most in NL history) includes five of the top eleven single-season batting averages compiled since the end of World War II. In San Diego or on the road, day or night games, right or left handed pitching, nothing seems to stop the most consistent hitter in the game. This jersey was worn during the latter part of the 2001 season. On the left front tail is the "Russell Athletic" label and below is the size tag "50." Across the front of the jersey is the name "San Diego" in blue on white/orange tackle twill and on the back is the name "Gwynn" in blue tackle twill. Below this is the player number "19" in blue on white/orange tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the "San Diego Padres Baseball Club" patch and on the back of the shirt is an American flag patch commemorating the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. On the back number "1" is an autograph. On the number "9" is a sticker authenticating the autograph. The shirt comes with a certificate from Gwynn. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
