Vern Stephens was one of the best slugging shortstops of his era. In 1944, when the Browns won their only pennant, he led the AL in RBI and in 1945 he led the AL in homers with 24. In the neck of the jersey is the "Rawlings" label and below is the wash tag. Adjacent to this is the size tag, "44." On the left front tail is "Stephens 46" which has been done in brown chain stitch. The number denotes the year. Across the front of the jersey is the name "Browns" and on the back is the player number "5." Both the name and number are made of brown on orange felt. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
