One of the greatest rivalries in professional sports began over 80 years ago when the Red Sox from Boston traded a pitcher named Ruth to the New York Yankees and the fortunes of the two ballclubs would never be the same again. Pictured here is a page of common lined tablet paper that has been signed by players from both clubs during a game in Boston during the summer of the 1925 season. The autographs were collected by a gentleman who lived in Boston for 90 years from 1906-1996. The autographs are signed in pencil on a tablet sheet that has a few slight tears but otherwise is in excellent condition. The players signatures include Hall of Famers Babe Ruth, Miller Huggins and Waite Hoyt. However, the most intriguing and rare signature is that of Yankee pitcher Urban Shocker. Shocker, who died in September of 1928 due to complications from pneumonia, had just returned to the Yankees after a 7-year stint with the St. Louis Browns. The other signatures include: Ira Flagstad, Billy Rogell, Homer Ezzell, Steve O'Neill, Phil Todt, Joe Lucey, Doc Protho, Ike Boone, Ernie Johnson and Paul Zahniser. The pencil signatures rate between 7 and 9 with Ruth and Shocker among the higher end.
