Led by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, the 1927 New York Yankees are considered to be one of the greatest teams of all time. On the very first day of the season, they claimed first place and did not give it up for the rest of the year. The team had a combined batting average of .307 with Gehrig hitting .373 while the Babe had a meager .356 and a then record 60 homeruns. This Reach Official American League Baseball has been signed in black steel-tip fountain pen by five members of the 1927 squad including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Dutch Reuther, and Bob Shawkey. This specific baseball was only manufactured in 1927 and with that being the last year that Shawkey and Reuther were with the club the ball can be dated to that spectacular 27 season. The signatures rate between 3 and 7 with Ruth, Gehrig and Lazzeri being bold and strong. The Shawkey and Reuther are light but readable. The red and blue stitched ball shows nice, even toning. A fine example of the most desirable pieces in all of sports collecting.
