A 13-time All-Star and winner of consecutive National League Most Valuable Player awards in 1958 and 1959 despite his team's fifth-place standing, Ernie Banks was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977, his first year of eligibility. Mr. Cub, as he became known, epitomized devotion to his team, a quality that would certainly stand out in today's corporate baseball world. His proclamation "Let's play two!" became his signature phrase, demonstrating his love for the game. Beyond his enthusiasm and popularity, Banks displayed incredible power-hitting ability. Five seasons with over 40 home runs helped vault him to a career total of 512 homers, a level of output that is unheard of for a shortstop. This wood trophy was presented to Banks by Major League Baseball after he joined the 500 home run club. It is an astounding 43" tall with a 23.5" x 7.5" base. The trophy sports several statues of players, one of them sans bat and another with a re-affixed player, and has plaques listing each of Banks' first 500 home runs. A plaque with his picture hangs down from the top and a wooden "500" is loosely attached on top. Overall, the trophy appears in magnificent condition and is the only known 500 Home Run Trophy in private hands, after Banks' ex-wife obtained it in their divorce settlement. The lucky winner of this fabulous award should take into account some extra shipping and handling charges. It comes with an 11" x 14" photo montage distributed at Banks' Hall of Fame induction which includes a photo of then-National League President Charles "Chub" Feeney giving this trophy to Banks. This award is a magnificent tribute to one of America's icons. A truly historical piece of baseball tradition.
