Grey Flannel Auctions takes pride in offering the ultimate "tool of the trade," a game-used Babe Ruth baseball bat. George Herman Ruth was baseball's first great slugger and the most celebrated athlete of his time. The greatest drawing card in American sport, Ruth led the NY Yankees to 7 AL Pennants and 4 World Championships. Coupled with Gehrig, the twosome formed the best 3/4 combination in baseball history. The labeling period of this Louisville slugger is 1922-1930, because it predates the "Powerized" logo, which first appeared in 1931. Instead it features "Made in USA," which first appeared in 1921. The newer, larger style Ruth signature and the older, more slender barrel places the bat in the 1923-1926 span, the peak of Ruth's fabled career. The bat weighs 37.1 ounces and measures 34 7/8 inches in length, the standard for a 35 inch bat. The bat, particularly the barrel, shows evidence of having game-use and has a small handle crack. The barrel has many small cleat-mark type gouges. The color of the bat is a medium brown, which is consistent with bats of the 1920s. It is a marvelous example of a "gamer" used by the great "Bambino."
