After leaving LSU for the greener pastures of the NBA, Shaquille O'Neal was expected to become the NBA's most dominating big man since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Guess what folks? Mission accomplished. In fact, Shaq established himself as the most intimidating center in the league almost immediately. He averaged 23.4 points, 13.8 rebounds and 3.5 blocks and ran away with Rookie of the Year honors. In fact, Shaq's rebounding and blocked shot averages from his rookie season are still career bests. Shaq's 1992-1993 Sporting News Rookie of the Year Award is what is being offered here. The glass award stands nearly 7" high and features a collage of athletes above O'Neal's name. The award has no real flaws to speak of and comes directly from Dennis Tracey, O'Neal's teammate and roommate at LSU who later became his personal manager when he turned pro. This is one of seven items consigned to us by Tracey, previously on display at the All-Star Cafe for 10 years.
