Babe Dahlgren was the Red Sox' first baseman as a rookie in 1935. On May 2, 1939, he played first base for the Yankees in place of the ailing Lou Gehrig, whose consecutive game string ended at 2,130. Dahlgren homered that day and he remained the Yankee first baseman for two seasons. He saw regular action, mostly in the NL, through the end of WWII. In the neck of the jersey is the "Rawlings" label and below is the wash tag. Next to this is the size tag, "44." On the left front tail is "Dahlgren 46" in brown chain stitch. The number denotes the year. Across the front of the jersey is the name "Browns" and on the back is the player number "3." Both the name and number are made of orange on brown felt. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
