A backup catcher and utility player for the popular Oakland teams of the 1970's, Gene Tenace sat in the shadows until his team reached the postseason. In 1972, Tenace drove in the run that won the pennant for the A's and in the World Series he was all but unstoppable becoming the first player to homer in his first two at bats. On the left front tail is the "McAuliffe" label. Below this is the "71" year tag and the "44" size tag. On the left front breast is the "A's" logo and on the right breast is the player number "38." The logo and number are done in green/yellow tackle twill. On the back is the player name "Tenace" in green tackle twill and below this is the player number "38" in green/yellow tackle twill. There is green/yellow piping around the neck and arm holes. The jersey shows even wear throughout with buckling and fraying evident on the letters, number, and piping. All stitching is original and consistent with other jerseys from that era that we have seen. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
