According to teammate Stan Musial, Red Schoendienst had the greatest pair of hands he had ever seen. And Red used those hands for 19 years in the big leagues carving out one of the finest careers a player has ever had culminating in his election to the baseball Hall of Fame. He hit .300 or better five times and played in ten all star games. And when it was over Red just could not leave the game that he loved and stuck around to manage the Cardinals for 14 years. This classic Cardinals flannel dates from Red's playing days. In the neck is the "Rawlings" label and adjacent to this is the size tag "42." On the left front tail is the player name "A Schoendienst" in red chain stitch. On the inside left front tail is the wash tag and adjacent is the flag tag reading "Set 1 1954." Across the front of the jersey is the team name "Cardinals" in red embroidered stitch. Going through the "C" is a gold embroidered bat with a red cardinal on each end. On the back of the jersey is the player number "2" in red on blue felt. There is red trim around the neck and running down the front of the jersey. The trim also appears at the arm holes. The jersey shows game use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. A classic Hall of Fame flannel.
