With his sneaky fastball, Jim "Catfish" Hunter epitomized control pitching at its finest. He pitched a perfect game in 1968, won 21 or more games five times in a row, and claimed the American League's Cy Young Award in 1974. Arm trouble ended Hunter's career at age 33, but he still won 224 games and five World Series rings. Offered here is a 1979 Jim "Catfish" Hunter New York Yankees road knit jersey. In the neck of the jersey is a grey tackle twill patch with "Hunter 79 1" sewn on in navy chain stitch to represent player name, year, and set number, respectively. On the left front tail is the "Wilson" manufacturer's tag with the size "46." The team name "New York" is sewn onto the front of the jersey and the player number "29" is sewn onto the back, all in navy on white tackle twill. There is an blue Sharpie autograph on the left breast which rates an 8. The left sleeve has a black armband to commemorate the death of Thurman Munson. The jersey's tagging and stitching are consistent with tagging and stitching present on other New York Yankees road jerseys from the late 1970's. The jersey shows good game use with consistent, even wear throughout, including fraying on the edges of the "Wilson" tag and sweat marks around the collar. It appears to have no alterations of any kind. The autograph comes with a letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
