No player in history generated more emotion, created more havoc, bruised more egos and left more scars than Ty Cobb. As the dominant player of the dead-ball era, his near legendary feats withstood the test of time. A member of the inaugural class of players elected to the Hall of Fame in 1936. Cobb finished his career with a .366 batting average (# 1 All-Time) and 4191 hits. This great Cobb bat is from the twilight of his career, 1924-28. Length (34.75 in) and weight (40 oz) match perfectly to factory ordering records for bats ordered by Ty Cobb during the labeling period. The narrow grain "Northern White" ash has aged gracefully and now exhibits a warm dark brown hue. The bat shows evidence of tremendous game use. The barrel is covered with ball marks and Cobb's trademark cleat gouges. Another Cobb "finger print" is present on the handle of the bat in the form of three tape rings. Two vintage rings are still fully intact. The third ring consists of a shadow on the wood where the tape once was. Photographs from the era clearly show the rings of tape on the handle of Cobb's bats. Ty Cobb game-used bats are very rare and sought after by collectors. Rarer still are examples that possess the "finger prints" that can place the bat directly into the hands of the great Ty Cobb. A significant piece of memorabilia, baseball history, and Americana. Manufacturer: Hillerich & Bradsby, Model Number: Pre Model #, Labeling Period: 1926-1928, Length: 34-3/4 in, Weight: 40 oz, Wood: Ash: Finish: Standard. The bat comes with a letter from PSA/DNA.
