Nobody was more dedicated to the art of putting a bat on a ball than Ted Williams. A human hitting machine equipped with near perfect eyesight, lightning reflexes, powerful forearms and unnerving patience. The "Splendid Splinter" is arguably the best hitter there ever was. Six batting crowns, two MVP awards, .344 batting average and 521 home runs define the greatness of "Teddy Ballgame." Offered is an uncracked Louisville Slugger Model W183 from the 1955 season. Factory ordering records confirm that the length (35 inches) and weight (33 ounces) of the bat match perfectly to the W183 models ordered by Williams during the 1955 season. The ordering records specify "very narrow grain", which duplicates the grain pattern on this bat. The bat shows tremendous game use and has several Williams "finger prints" that could place this bat directly into Ted's hands. First, the barrel is grooved on the left hand side. This area is peppered with ball and ball stitch marks. When batting Williams turned the center brand down when batting, resulting in ball contact on the left side of the barrel. Second, the bat has the remains of vintage pine tar and the handle has been scored to enhance grip. Both characteristics are William's trademarks. Last, but not least Ted's player number "9" is on the knob in vintage black paint. In all respects a perfect Ted Williams game-used bat that could be placed directly into the hands of the greatest hitter that ever was. Manufacturer: Hillerich & Bradsby, Model Number: W183, Labeling Period: 1955, Length: 35 in, Weight: 33 oz, Wood: Ash, Finish: Standard. The bat comes with a letter from PSA/DNA.
