Renowned singer/actor Paul Robeson and tap dancing legend Bill "Bojangles" Robinson were two of the most influential black entertainers of their time. The two became linked in baseball history when they were called upon in 1947 by Branch Rickey to discuss Jackie Robinson and the integration of baseball. This was not the first baseball-related meeting of the two men, as evidenced by this ball that was signed at a 1940 Negro League all-star game. BoJangles was at the time, owner of the New York Black Yankees. A total of 19 signatures appear on this Official American Association ball including Paul Robeson, Bill "BoJangles" Robinson, Henry Armstrong, Ray Brown, Norman "Jelly" Jackson, Jud Wilson, George Scales, Johnny "Steelarm" Taylor, Olan "Jelly" taylor, Vic Harris, Larry Brown, E. Joyce, and E. Adams. The signatures are in black ink rating from 6 to 9. The signatures of Paul Robeson and Bill Robinson are both strong and appear on the same panel. The date "Sept 8, 1940" has been written on the ball which has developed a mild even tone. The autographs come with a letter from PSA/DNA.
