Few players in history have instilled fear in the opposition in the way legendary Chicago Bears middle linebacker Dick Butkus did. Only the truly brave, or truly naive as many would see it, dared run up the middle against the eight-time Pro Bowler. Butkus intercepted 22 passes during his splendid career, recovered 25 fumbles and is enshrined in Canton. Included in this lot are pants and socks last worn by the Hall-of-Famer in a game against the Green Bay Packers at Wrigley Field during the early 1970s. The size 36 pants feature the number "51" in ink on the inside waistband and show good game use. They feature Sand Knit tagging and blue and orange stripes running down the sides. Both the socks and pants were repaired by Bears equipment manager Ray Earley following the Bears vs. Packers game, which was the 100th meeting between the two teams. The items are accompanied by LOAs providing a detailed history of their acquisition.
