Chosen by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of his draft year Emmitt Smith blossomed into the 1990 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year rushing for 937 yards. It would be the only season in his unbelievable Hall of Fame career that he would rush for less than 1,000. He went on to lead his team to three Superbowl victories and set the standard against which all other running backs would be judged. The offered jersey is from his rookie season and was obtained by our consignor through the 1994 "NFL Experience Auction". This is possibly the first jersey he ever wore. On the left front tail is the "Russell Athletic" manufacturers label with the size "44." Adjacent to this are the "100% Nylon" and "4" Extra Body Length" flag tags. On the front of the jersey is the player number "22" which also appears on the back and sleeves. Also on the back of the jersey is a white nameplate with the player name "E. Smith." When Smith came up with the Cowboys in 1990 there was another player with the last name "Smith" on the team. That players nameplate was used and an additional piece of white nylon reading "E." was added. All of the letters and numbers are ironed on in blue. The jersey shows light game use on the neck and shoulders with a few stains and pulls. With the exception of the team done change to the nameplate, it appears to have no alterations of any kind. The front number has been signed in paint pen with the signature rating an 8. The autograph comes with a letter from PSA/DNA.
