Walter Payton was Hall of Fame running back and leading rusher in NFL history with 16,726 yards. Chicago Bears team alumni rings were created for "Honor Roll" players who played at least one full season on the Bears roster. This ring was created for Walter Payton and was to be presented to him at the 1999 Chicago Bear Alumni Dinner. Unfortunately, Payton's health failed rapidly (precluding the event) and he later died on November 1, 1999. The ring weighs 21 pennyweight, with Paytons' name, number, Bears logo, and position engraved on the right shank. The left shank has an illustration of George Halas with a NFL shield in the background. The ring features a blue stone in the middle, encircled with white sapphires and the Bear helmet logo on top. The embossed lettering around the stone reads "Chicago Bears Alumni." Included is the custom cherry wood box, with Payton's name, number and Bears logo. The ring is in NM condition and is a size 11. This one of a kind item includes a letter from the designer and manufacturer.
