The self professed "straw that stirs the drink," Reggie Jackson made headlines from the moment he arrived in New York until the time he left. During his time in the Big Apple, the Yanks played in three World Series. This is Jackson's helmet from the 1978 Series. Box scores indicate that Jackson struck out seven times in the '78 World Series, a number that surely frustrated him as it was almost twice as many times as the year before. As the story goes, Jackson let his anger get the best of him and took out his aggressions upon this batting helmet, slamming it down on the dugout roof in angst. While in the possession of our consignor, it was taken to be signed by him at a sports convention. After penning his name "Reggie Jackson" upon the brim in silver paint pen, he noticed the crack that runs down the top and instantly recognized it for what it was. At that time he added the "78 World Series" inscription as he told the story of its use. The helmet was manufactured by American Baseball Cap and has the Yankees interlocking "NY" logo on the front. Inside is the well worn size "7 3/4" tag. It shows copious amounts of game use with abrassions to the top and a crack that runs from the center of the top down near the brim and circles back up through the team logo. An outstanding piece of Yankee history. The autograph comes with a letter from PSA/DNA.
