Lou Gehrig's formative years on the sandlots of New York City are recalled in this "First Quarter Century" yearbook put out by his alma mater, Commerce High School, in 1927. That year, with Gehrig forming with Babe Ruth the core of arguably the greatest Yankee team ever, the 176-page retrospective noted Gehrig's two seasons as the team's first baseman in 1919 and 1920, leading Commerce to the city HS title both years and noting that "Babe Lou Gehrig" had won the latter title with a "terrific pop fly which fell in the bleachers." Gehrig is pictured in two 5" x 8" photos, one with the team and the other in his Yankee uniform. The volume, bound in black with silver lettering on the cover, is in very good to excellent condition with some mild yellowing of the pages.
