Few could disagree that Elston Howard was the American League's Most Valuable Player in 1963 after Howard's .287 batting average, 28 home runs, and 85 RBI assured that the Yankees would add to a string of three consecutive American League pennants by taking their fourth. The Connecticut State Sport Writers Alliance presented this trophy to Howard for his performance and the trophy, which is slightly more than two feet high, has a plaque engraved "Elston G. Howard / 1963 American League Most Valuable Player / Presented by the Connecticut State Sport Writers Alliance." On top of the wooden and metal trophy is a statue of a baseball player hitting. The trophy is in excellent condition and comes with a letter of authenticity from Howard's wife Arlene.
