The Yankees and Dodgers, always rivals, met once again in the 1978 World Series, and as was often the case, the Bronx Bombers triumphed. As a result, the Yankees' Coach Elston Howard was given this fantastic ring--not a bad deal! The size 8 1/2 near mint to mint ring is 14K gold and has "Balfour 14K" and "Greatest Comeback in History" engraved inside of it. On top of the EX-NM ring is a baseball diamond with diamonds inside of it, all on a blue base. Engraved around the top is "World Champions" and a ring of diamonds goes around the top. Yankee Stadium, the World Series trophy, and the Yankees name logo are engraved on the left shank along with "New York Yankees 1978 World Champions." The name "Howard" appears on the top of the right shank along with the Yankees "NY" logo, surrounded by the year "1978" and the words "Pride" and "Tradition." George Steinbrenner issued this ring, made to the exact specifications of Howard's original ring, after the original was stolen and presumably melted down, since it has not surfaced. The near mint ring comes to us directly from Howard's wife Arlene and comes with her letter of authenticity.
