Johnny Mize is regarded as one of the top first basemen in baseball history. The 1946 season was one of the Big Cat's best, as he put up a .337 batting average with 22 home runs before being injured with a third of the season left. This all-original New York Giants road flannel is from that season. In the collar is the "MacGregor Goldsmith" manufacturer's tag with the size "44." Below this is a white felt patch reading "Mize 3" in red chain stitch, denoting the player name and number. On the inside left front tail is a similar felt patch reading "2 46," denoting set number and year. Across the front of the jersey is the team name "New York" and on the back is the player number "3." All of the letters and numbers are done in blue on red felt. The zipper front jersey has its original blue and red piping running around the collar and down the front. This also appears on the ends of the sleeves. It shows nice game use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. A simply outstanding all-original flannel jersey worthy of display in Cooperstown.
