Jimmy Carter has been acknowledged as one of the most influential individuals in history with regard to peace and has arranged for accords between many of the world's most deeply divided groups. In 1979, he struck a historic agreement between Israel and Egypt, ending years of bitterness between the two countries. For his efforts toward the betterment of humanity, Carter was presented with several awards that year including the Gold medal from the International Institute for Human Rights, the International Mediation medal from the American Arbitration Association, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Nonviolent Peace Prize, and the International Human Rights Award. In addition, he laid a groundwork upon which friendships between countries have been forged and set an example of how peace in the Middle East can exist. Offered here is the necktie that Jimmy Carter wore during the signing of that historic peace agreement. It is housed within a 19" x 27" frame that also contains a photograph of Carter wearing the tie with the others at the signing and a handwritten letter from Carter on his own letterhead that reads, in full, "I wore this tie at the Egyptian - Israeli Peace Treaty signing ceremony at the White House on March 26, 1979. Jimmy Carter." Also included is a typed letter from Menachem Begin, dated November 29, 1977, in which he states "We shall continue to work to the best of our ability for the achievement of the noble goal to establish peace and security for generations to come." This piece is housed within a 16.5" x 24" frame that includes a photograph of all three at the signing. Finally, there is a Christmas card from Anwar Sadat that is framed to 16.5" x 26" with a picture of the Egyptian President and Carter. A historic archive related to a ground-breaking event.
