"Conan the Barbarian," brainchild of Robert E. Howard, was a "savage barbarian, of gigantic strength and ability" who was not a hero, but rather someone who "followed his own code of honor and tried to stay alive in a world full of perils." This 20" x 28" painting is original artwork from a Conan magazine cover. It was painted by Joe Chiondo, a famous illustrator, who is well-known for his paintings for comic books. The intricately detailed painting was done on board in what appears to be oil paints, with visible brushstrokes. The painting features Conan attacking a hideous green beast in order to rescue a scantily clad female, one of Chiodo's other trademarks. Chiodo signed in orange paint in the lower right corner. The painting has been framed in dark green to the final size of 21.5" x 29.5". Printed on the back of the board is: "Copyright, 1982. Marvel Comics Group." There is a tiny nick in the surface of the paint.
