During his era, Dan "The Horse" Issel was the hardest working man in professional basketball. A 15-year veteran of both the ABA and NBA, Issel played in 1,218 of 1,242 possible games, a consistency streak rivaled by few. Issel spent his first five professional years with the Kentucky Colonels of the ABA. As a rookie with the Colonels in 1971, Issel led the ABA in scoring with 29.9 ppg and was named Rookie of the Year. He was named MVP of the ABA All-Star Game in 1972 and led the Colonels to the 1975 championship. Issel went on to spend ten years with the Denver Nuggets before his eventual 1993 election into the Basketball Hall of Fame. This Issel Colonels game-used road blue knit jersey dates to the early 1970s. On the right front tail is the "Rawlings" manufacturer's tag with the size "44" and to the right of this is a "Plus 4" white tag. The team name "Kentucky" appears on the front and the player name "Issel" appears on the back. The player number "44" has been sewn onto the front and back. All the letters and numbers are made of white tackle twill. The jersey shows game use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
