During the 1979-80 NBA season "Pistol" Pete Maravich was released from the Utah Jazz and was picked up by the 76ers. His stay in Philadelphia would last no longer than a press conference during which he wore the offered jersey. The jersey is accompanied by a letter on 76ers team stationery that details its history. It reads, in part, "In the middle of the 1979-80 season Pete Maravich was released from the Utah Jazz and signed by the 76ers. He later refused to take the physical and never played with our team. However, there was a press conference to announce his signing and this is the shirt the Pistol wore...the jersey was also the shirt he was going to wear if he played with the 76ers." On the left front tail is the "Wilson" manufacturer's tag with the size "42." Adjacent to this is a "4" long" flag tag. Across the front is the team name "Sixers" and below is the player number "7" which also appears on the back. These letters and numbers are done in white on blue tackle twill. Also on the back is the player name "Maravich" in white tackle twill. It shows minimal wear, as would be expected, and represents a fine addition to most basketball jersey collections.
