Johnny Unitas and his "Golden Arm" were far ahead of their time. Johnny had a superior mind, and an arm that was simply the best. In his 18 year NFL career he amassed countless NFL records, many of which still exist today. Perhaps his most memorable record is his 40,000 career passing yards, a record that is often compared to Joe Dimaggio's 56 game hitting streak. In 1973 Unitas retired holding the record for most pass attempts, most pass completions, most total yards, most touchdowns, and most 300 yard games. In the 1958 title game, Unitas led his Colts with two 80 yard drives to beat the Giants 23-17. Many consider this to be one of the most outstanding pro football performances of all time. Unitas was named the QB of the All-Century team. Unitas decided to take an offer from University of Louisville after being turned down by his dream school Notre Dame. After his college years, Johnny did not have it so easy. He was drafted by the Steelers in 1955 and was released after a while. After that, Unitas played semi-pro until he got the call from the Baltimore Colts in February of 1956. Unitas signed a contract for $7,000 which was an incredible amount compared to his $3 a game in semi-pro days. He will never be forgotten, and to this day to many people he is still considered the greatest quarterback of all time. On the front left tail of this jersey is the "Sand-Knit" manufacturer's tag with wash instructions, and jersey size "LARGE (42-44)" on it. On the front, back, and both sleeves is the player number "19." Across the back is "UNITAS" on a blue nameplate. All lettering and numbering is screened on in white. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. The jersey comes with an additional LOA.
