At the age of 34, Gale Sayers was the youngest player ever inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His career was shortened due to two devastating knee injuries. His short career was made up of seven seasons in two of which he only played in two games. Gale was such a tremendous talent, it was as if he played for decades. Sayers had one of the best rookie seasons in the history of football. In 1965, his rookie year he gained 2,272 yards, and 22 total touchdowns which is to this day the Rookie record. On Dec 12, 1965 the Rookie phenom scored an NFL record six touchdowns in one game against the 49ers. He was a remarkable athlete. Pulitzer Prize winning sportswriter Red Smith once wrote "He wasn't a bruiser like Jimmy Brown, but he could slice through the middle like a warm knife through butter, and when he took a pitchout and peeled around the corner, he was the most exciting thing in pro football." On the front left tail of this Tear Away Jersey is the "King-O'Shea" with wash instructions, and jersey size "46" on it. On the front back, and both sleeves is the player number "40." Across the back of the jersey above the player number is "SAYERS." The jersey is autographed on the right breast in black marker rating a 9. All lettering and numbering is done in blue on orange tackle twill. The jersey shows good game-use, and appears to have no alterations of any kind. The autograph comes with a letter from PSA/DNA.
