Stan Musial could pure and simple hit. This man let nothing get in his way when he was in the batters box. He was a 20 time All-Star, three time MVP, hit 475 home runs, had a career .331 batting average, has three World Series rings, and countless other mind boggling statistics. "Stan The Man Musial" is a baseball legend. On August 17, 1956 he broke Mel Ott's National League record of extra base hits, hitting number 1,072. This lot comes with a Wire Photo of Musial in the locker room after the game the day he broke Ott's record. The jersey featured in this lot appears to possibly be the same jersey worn in the photo. On the front left tail of this jersey is the "Rawlings" manufacturer's tag. The tag reads "Rawlings" Hall of Fame FLANNEL." This shirt is a rare one year style that was only worn in 1956. Attached is a size tag reading "42." Below that is "Musial 56" stitched in red embroidery indicating player, and year. Across the front of the jersey is "Cardinals" done in red on black felt. On the back of the jersey is the player number "6" done in red on black felt. On the left sleeve is the Cardinals team logo patch. The jersey shows game-use, and appears to have no alterations of any kind. The jersey comes with an additional LOA.
