The 2005 NBA Finals featured a matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and the Detroit Pistons, the reigning NBA Champions. Detroit’s roster featured the same core of players that helped them win the title over the Lakers in the previous season. The Spurs’ roster featured “The Big Three” of Duncan, Ginóbili and Parker as well as Robert Horry, a 5-time NBA Champion prior to joining San Antonio before the 2003 season. Horry’s experience included a trip to the playoffs in each of his previous 13 seasons and his play off the bench would prove invaluable to the Spurs in their quest for another NBA title. In Game 5, “Big Shot Rob” carried the Spurs with 21 points off the bench, his first points coming off a three-pointer at the end of the third quarter. Horry added 18 more points in the fourth quarter and overtime, 15 of which either tied the game or provided the Spurs with the lead. Of all of his late-game heroics, no shot was bigger than his “dagger” three-pointer with 5.9 seconds remaining in overtime. Horry inbounded the ball to Ginóbili who was quickly cornered by two Pistons defenders. Ginóbili passed it back to Horry, who was left wide open by Rasheed Wallace, to sink what would be the game-winning basket. The shot gave the Spurs a 3-2 lead in the series as they returned home to San Antonio. The Pistons evened the series in Game 6 but the Spurs would finish the job after pulling away in the fourth quarter of Game 7. Horry received this championship ring, his sixth, and became only the second player in NBA history to play on championship teams for three different franchises. There are many people who believe that he will be a future inductee to the Basketball Hall of Fame. This magnificent size 12, 14k white gold player’s ring weighs 65 grams with a total diamond weight of 2.55 carats. The top panel features a diamond-encrusted Spurs logo on top of a gold Larry O'Brien NBA Championship Trophy with a .20-carat round-cut diamond. Surrounding that is a oval ring made up of baguette-cut diamonds. Approximately 1.25-carats worth of small round-cut diamonds emblazon the face and sides of this stunning ring. The left panel features the player’s name “HORRY” above a casted image of the official NBA logo along with the San Antonio Spurs and Detroit Pistons logos and the numbers “4” and “3”, indicating the result of the best-of-seven series. Below that at the bottom of the shank is the player’s number “5” and a banner engraved with the team’s record, “59-23”. The right panel reads “NBA CHAMPIONS” above a casted image of a hammer cracking a diamond-covered rock. Below that is the year “2005” and a banner engraved with “99 03”, the years of the two previous San Antonio championships. The inside of the ring is stamped “14K”. The ring is in MINT overall condition, comes with the original wooden presentation box and is accompanied by an additional LOA. This is the finest looking NBA championship ring this auction house has ever seen.
