Before the arrival of Hall of Fame catcher, Carlton Fisk, Birdie Tebbetts was voted the Red Sox' all-time best catcher in a 1969 fan poll, a remarkable feat, considering that he only spent four years with the Red Sox. Inside the rear collar is the “McAuliffe” tag. Above is the “Wilson” tag with attached size “46” flag tag. Inside the left front tail is the year “48” tag. The players name felt strip tag has been removed from the collar, Across the front is “RED SOX” which has been restored by the team. Player number “8” appears on back. All numbers and letters are done in red on navy felt. The jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion, shows appropriate use. Other than what is mentioned, there appear to be no further alterations of any kind.
