Jim “Catfish” Hunter was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1987. In 1974 Hunter had the best season of his professional career, winning a World Series championship and leading the American League in wins and ERA, which ultimately led to his only AL Cy Young Award. Hunter had 25 wins with a 2.49 ERA. In his career, Hunter won five World Series championships and has his No. 27 retired by the Oakland Athletics franchise. On the front right tail is a “McAULIFFE UNIFORM CORP.” manufacturer’s tag. Above is a, “1974” year tag and below is a size, “44” tag. Adjacent is a tag with washing instructions. On the front of the jersey is the team’s, “A’s” logo and on the back is the player number, “27”. These are done in green on white tackle twill. Across the back reads the player name, “HUNTER” in green tackle twill sewn directly onto the yellow jersey. There are dirt stains and light spotting throughout the front side of the jersey. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows outstanding use.
